Manchester United reportedly interested in 19-year-old striker

Manchester United are ready to bid £1m for young Sheffield United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims United want to strengthen their under-21 team ahead of their participation in the Premier League International Cup this season and have identified Calvert-Lewin as a target.

The 19-year-old, who was reportedly close to joining Everton earlier this summer, spent the first half of last season on loan at Northampton Town, where he scored 8 goals in 26 appearances.

The teenager is not an essential part of Chris Wilder’s plans at Sheffield United this season and has also been linked with a loan move to the Championship.

However, it seems like Calvert-Lewin could head to Old Trafford instead as Manchester United are believed to be prepared to enter the battle for his signature before the end of the transfer window on Wednesday.

United’s under-21 head coach, Warren Joyce, could certainly do with another option in attack as he’s already lost plenty of players this summer.

Wilson, Pereira, Powell and Januzaj have already left United this summer, with Keane also expected to leave before the end of the month.

Calvert-Lewin could decide to move to a smaller club where he’d be a first-team player, but he could also be tempted by the prospect of playing for Manchester United.

If he joins United and makes an impression, he’d get his chance in the first team soon enough.
