Report: Manchester United defender touted with a move to Premier League side

The report suggests Jones is not part of Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans at Old Trafford this season and the defender could be set for a temporary move to the bet365 Stadium.

The 24-year-old former Blackburn centre-back joined Manchester United in 2011 as one of the best defensive talents in the UK, but his persistent injury problems have stalled his progress in recent years.

Jones only made 13 appearances for United’s first team last season and is yet to feature under Jose Mourinho this season.

If Jones has finally managed to get over his injury troubles, he’d need regular first-team football in order to get his career back on track.

However, with Bailly, Blind, Smalling and Rojo already ahead of Jones in the pecking order at United, it wouldn’t be the worst idea to spend some time on loan at another Premier League club.

Jones’ situation at United would get even more difficult if the reports about Mourinho’s interest in Southampton centre-back Jose Fonte are true.

Moving to Stoke City would be good for Jones’ career as he’d be able to prove his fitness and get more chances to play.
