Manchester United striker James Wilson is on the verge of joining Derby County on a season-long loan deal, according to BBC Radio Derby reporter Owen Bradley.

The journalist claims Wilson will move to the Championship side until the end of the season, but the striker is unlikely to play for Derby County against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The 20-year-old, who wasn’t given a squad number at United last month, looks set for another temporary spell in the Championship following his 5-month period on loan at Brighton last season.

Wilson is obviously not part of Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans this season, so it’d be better for him to move to another club in order to continue his development as a player.

He’s a very talented striker and he needs to be playing competitive first-team football next season.

Spending some time at Derby County would be a good move for Wilson. The Rams are an ambitious side and their manager, Nigel Pearson, knows how to get the best out of the young players.

If Wilson impresses in the Championship this season, he’d probably get another chance to prove his worth to Mourinho next summer.
