Manchester United defender reportedly set to leave this month

Darmian

Napoli and Roma are interested in signing Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian, according to Italian website Calciomercato.it.

The report claims Manchester United would be willing to sell the right-back this month, but only if they recoup much of the €20m they paid Torino for the player’s services last summer.

Darmian, who wasn’t involved in United’s opening two games of the season, is being linked with a return to Italy only a year after joining the Red Devils from Torino.

The Italian international had to endure a frustrating first season at Old Trafford, during which he was in and out of the starting eleven due to injury problems and poor form.

Darmian is reportedly behind Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Antonio Valencia in the pecking order at United.

Valencia’s started the new season in fantastic form and it seems like he’ll be United’s first-choice right-back this season.

Darmian is unlikely to be happy with being third choice in the pecking order at the club, so he could decide to return to familiar surroundings in Italy.

It’d be better to keep him at the club for another season, but if he decides to leave, it’d be perfectly understandable.
