According to a report from the Telegraph (via Super Deporte), Arsenal’s transfer move for Shkodran Mustafi is now in serious doubt.
The report claims that Mustafi’s dad has said there is currently no deal in place that would send Mustafi to Arsenal.
This comes as extremely disappointing news for Arsenal, as they are very thin at center back with Gabriel and Per Mertesacker having gone down with injuries.
Mertesacker is expected to be out for about 4-5 months, while Gabriel could miss up to two months, so the Gunners desperately need to sign an experienced center back before the transfer window closes.
If the deal does happen, Mustafi would be a great addition to Arsenal, and he would provide them with some of the experience they are looking for. Mustafi is only 24 years old, but he has played in over 100 games in Serie A and La Liga combined.
With the Mustafi move now in doubt, Arsenal will quickly have to shift their attention to other options at center back before the summer transfer window is over.
