Manchester United reportedly interested in Brazilian defender

Manchester United have identified Inter centre-back Joao Miranda as a potential target this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims Jose Mourinho wants to add experience to his defense and will consider a move for the 31-year-old Brazilian if one of Blind or Rojo leaves Old Trafford in this transfer window.

The newspaper goes on to suggest that Pogba won’t be United’s last signing this summer, with Fabinho, Saul Niguez and Blaise Matuidi also on United’s shortlist of targets.

It’d be hard to imagine United signing another midfielder after Pogba, but things could always change if one of the team’s current midfielders leaves.

Strengthening the team’s defense even further seems far more realistic. United probably need another option at right-back and Fabinho would be a quality addition to the team.

Signing an experienced and reliable centre-back is even more essential. Mourinho reportedly doesn’t see a future for Blind at centre-back, whereas Rojo and Jones are too injury prone and lack the quality to be first-team regulars at United.

Joao Miranda would be a good short-term signing for United. Even though he hasn’t replicated his Atletico Madrid form since arriving at San Siro last summer, he had a decent 2015/16 season, during which he made 34 appearances for Roberto Mancini’s side.

Given the lack of experience and persistent injury problems in the United defense, it’d be important to have a player like Miranda in the squad.
