Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid attacking midfielder James Rodriguez this summer, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
The report suggests Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and West Ham United are also keen on the Colombian international, but Manchester United are the favourites for his signature.
The newspaper goes on to suggest that Real Madrid have set an asking price of €80m for the 25-year-old and are unwilling to lower their demands.
Rodriguez, who left Monaco for Real Madrid 2 years ago, had to endure a frustrating second part of the 2015/16 season, during which he wasn’t a regular starter in Zinedine Zidane’s team.
The former Monaco player scored 8 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions for the European Champions last season.
Rodriguez has 4 more years on his contract with Real Madrid, so the 11-time European champions are under no pressure to sell.
However, it appears as though they’d be willing to let him leave if they receive an offer of €80m this summer.
He’s a quality player that would add some much-needed creativity to the United team, but given his struggles last season, the asking price seems excessive.
United are unlikely to agree to meet Real Madrid’s asking price as they’re reportedly pursuing a world-record deal for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba this summer.
