Santos was in serious need of a win here, instead, the defending Liga MX champions came out flat and were defeated 2-0 by Morelia. With this win, Morelia clinches a spot in the playoffs, and leaves Santos with slim chances for making it into the liguilla. All of these things must happen for Santos to get into the playoffs: Monterrey must lose, Jaguares must lose, and Tigres cannot win. As you can see, it’s looking like Santos won’t get the chance to defend their Liga MX title.
