Manchester United are not engaged in negotiations with Pachuca for winger Hirving Lozano, according to the Mexican side’s manager, Diego Alonso.
20-year-old Lozano has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the past few weeks, but Alonso has rejected the claims, saying the young attacker will be staying at the club this summer.
Alonso said: “I am very calm because I know he [Lozano] has spoken with club officials. He spoke with Jesus Martinez and they explained to him the reality of the situation.
“And the reality is that today he must be fully focused on Pachuca because there is absolutely nothing [with Manchester United],” he told reporters, as quoted by Univision.
“Logically there is going to be interest [from big clubs] but there have been no offers. If we get an offer he will be the first to know it, but we plan for El Chuky to be with us throughout the rest of the season.”
Diego Alonso’s words directly contradict the claims of Pachuca’s vice-president, Andres Fassi, who last week said the negotiations with United were ongoing.
“Already there is negotiations with that team [United]? Yes,” Fassi told ESPN, according to the Manchester Evening News. “There is still nothing closed though.”
It appears as though there’s a lack of communication and understanding between the club’s vice-president and the manager as they’re basically contradicting each other.
Even though it’s not exactly clear whether or not Manchester United are interested in the winger, it’s safe to say the transfer doesn’t make much sense at this moment in time.
United are famous for buying the most talented youngsters in the world, but the team doesn’t need any more wingers with Young, Memphis, Martial, Mata, Januzaj, Lingard and Mkhitaryan already at the club.
Some of the aforementioned players have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford this summer, but as long as they’re at the club, there isn’t a need for any more wide players.
