Daniel Sturridge proved to be one of the best players for England on the pitch on a night when England were thrown back by the might of Iceland. None of the English players showed their class on the pitch, except the Liverpool forward, Daniel Sturridge.
He was the only one who showed the spark and was willing to take on Iceland’s defense. His tireless efforts were equaled by other players’ lethargy. Sturridge was England’s most lively player and a player with much positive and progressive passing in the team as compared to other Englishmen. Unfortunately, his quick reactions and forward passing were unable to create chances, as Iceland’s robust defense stood firm.
Had Sturridge found any player as dynamic as him in the team, the result could have been different for England. None of the English players played with even half the enthusiasm of what Daniel Sturridge showed against Iceland.
Sturridge played for 211 minutes in EURO 2016, with a passing accuracy of 81.6%. He was Hodgson’s go-to player alongside Jamie Vardy, although their efforts fell short against Iceland, leading to England’s most embarrassing loss in decades.
