Manchester United reportedly after a marquee signing

Manchester United want to make a statement of intent by signing a big-name player this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.

United already brought Ivory Coast centre-back Eric Bailly to Old Trafford this summer, but the report claims Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen his team with three more players – a right winger, a striker and a midfielder.

Mourinho has reportedly identified Juventus star Paul Pogba as his main transfer target this summer, but the Portuguese manager’s believed to be pessimistic about the club’s chances of luring the Frenchman back to Old Trafford this summer.

United are expected to add Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to their squad this summer, but they’d likely to face stiff competition for Pogba’s signature as he’s probably the most coveted midfielder in world football right now.

Woodward would have to work very hard if the club wants to secure Pogba’s services this summer.

Juventus would probably demand a world-record fee for the Frenchman and United would also have to convince the player that a return to Old Trafford would be the best career choice for him.

The lack of Champions League football next season could make Pogba decide against a move to United, but he could also be tempted by the prospect of working under Jose Mourinho at the club where he made his professional debut in 2011.
