Report: Manchester United interested in Atletico Madrid striker

Old Trafford

Manchester United are keen on Atletico Madrid’s Luciano Vietto, according to Talksport.

The report suggests United have identified Vietto as a back-up option in case they fail to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer, but they’d face competition from Arsenal, who are also believed to be interested in the Argentinian.

The 22-year-old striker joined Atletico Madrid last summer from Villarreal, but failed to establish himself as a regular starter in Diego Simeone’s team.

Vietto scored 3 goals and provided 4 assists in 27 appearances for Atletico last season.

Even though Vietto failed to make an impact at Vicente Calderon last season, he’s still a good player.

He was one of the best players in Spain during the 2014/15 season, in which he scored 20 goals in 48 appearances for Villarreal.

However, identifying Vietto as an alternative to Ibrahimovic doesn’t make much sense as they’re entirely different players and the Argentinian doesn’t have the necessary physical attributes to lead the line in Jose Mourinho’s system.
