Report: Manchester United striker a target for Bristol City

Old Trafford

Bristol City are interested in signing young Manchester United striker Ashley Fletcher, according to the Bristol Post.

The report suggests the Championship side’s manager, Lee Johnson, is keen to strengthen his attack and has identified several young Premier League strikers that could be available on loan this summer.

It appears as though Fletcher is one of Bristol City’s targets, but Lee Johhnson’s club would probably face stiff competition for his signature as the 20-year-old has also been heavily linked with Leeds United and Barnsley.

The talented striker enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Barnsley last season, during which he scored 9 goals and made 4 assists in 26 appearances.

Fletcher’s current Manchester United contract expires at the end of this month, but he’s been offered a new deal and has already expressed his desire to establish himself at Old Trafford.

Fletcher told Manchester United’s official website last week: “That’s the ultimate goal – playing for Manchester United.”

It seems like the striker will renew his deal, but given United’s reported interest in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford’s meteoric rise to stardom, Fletcher could be set for another loan spell away from the club next season.

A move to the Championship would be a good option for Fletcher as it’d be a step up from League 1 football and it’d be a decent preparation for the Premier League.
