Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to keep £16.5 million man at Manchester United

Jose Mourinho has told Phil Jones he’s part of his plans at Old Trafford next season, according to the Daily Mirror.

The report suggests the centre-back, who had to endure an injury-plagued 2015/16 season, is set to stay at the club after holding talks with the recently appointed Portuguese manager.

The 24-year-old versatile defender only made 13 appearances for Manchester United last season, which made most people think his time at the club was up.

However, it appears as though Mourinho has different plans and is keen to keep the former Blackburn Rovers player at the club.

If United want to mount a title challenge next season, they need reliable players that aren’t injury prone.

That being said, if Mourinho believes Jones could get over his constant injury problems, it’d be a good idea to keep the 24-year-old for at least another season.

If we assume Jones can stay fit for a prolonged run in the first team, then he’d be a very good option to have in the squad and would fit into Mourinho’s system.
