Manchester United have made a €35million bid for Basel’s Breel Embolo, according to German newspaper Sport Bild.
The report suggests Embolo, who can play up front and on either wing, was set to join newly promoted German Bundesliga side RB Leipzigfor €20million plus add-ons, but Manchester United’s sudden interest has changed everything.
Manchester United are believed to be favourites for the 19-year-old’s signature as RB Leipzig have apparently made it clear they are not prepared to break their wage structure to match the salary offered to Embolo by the English giants.
The 19-year-old Swiss international helped Basel to a 7th consecutive Swiss title last season, scoring 10 goals in 27 league appearances for his team.
He’s a physically imposing player, so if he joins Manchester United, he should be able to adapt to the Premier League relatively quickly.
However, Embolo is far from the finished article, so the fans would have to be patient with him.
Given United’s need for a right winger, Embolo would get plenty of chances to play. It’d be unfair to expect him to immediately hit the ground running at United, but he has the potential to become a top player and would be a very good option to have in the squad.
