Liverpool’s Strongest Possible Lineup vs Watford: Benteke to start in a 4-5-1

Anfield

In less than a year as the manager of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has already led the club to two cup finals. Even if they lost the first trophy, the Europa League is a much bigger reward. After a fantastic 3-0 victory over Villarreal in the second leg of the Europa League tie, the team now faces Watford in Anfield. This is yet another opportunity for the younger players in the squad to show what they are capable of.

Goalkeeper

Danny Ward has been fantastic whenever he has been between the sticks, despite conceding three goals against Swansea. He may never be a long-term option for Liverpool but he is more than capable of being a great back-up.

Right-Back

Connor Randall could start after Nathaniel Clyne just celebrated his 50th appearance for the club. Randall doesn’t necessarily have the talent to be a consistent top-flight player but he is still a useful cover to have on the squad.

Center-Backs

An experienced pair of Martin Skrtel and Lucas Leiva may be starting the middle of the defense for the Reds. Skrtel is running out of chances to prove himself to Klopp while Lucas has performed very well when playing as a center-back.

Left-Back

With Brad Smith suspended after picking up two reds against Swansea, Alberto Moreno may start once again. If not, Jon Flanagan has proven multiple times that he can play on the left side of the defense just as well as on the right.

Right Midfield

Sheyi Ojo is an electric talent who just needs more top-level experience. He can get past most defenders with ease and he is already adept at both scoring and assisting goals.

Midfield

Joe Allen and Kevin Stewart should be able to boss the midfield with their energy. While they aren’t the most creative players, this formation allows them to focus on retaining possession and controlling the pace of the match.

Left Midfield

Jordon Ibe another potential start for the youngster, another chance for him to prove the doubters wrong. He has to put it all together at some point, there is too much talent for him not to. At this point he has to get over the mental wall that seems to always make him make the wrong decisions when he is in a dangerous position.

Attacking Midfield

Klopp can choose from any of Adam LallanaPhilippe Coutinho or Roberto Firmino to fill the position behind the forward. Any of the three should be able to create a few chances but whoever starts will probably be brought off early in preparation for the big match against Chelsea just three days later.

Forward

This may be the last time Christian Benteke starts a match in a Liverpool jersey and he has to show that he is still very much a deadly striker. He is the only other option behind Daniel Sturridge but the England international has been playing a lot of minutes lately and it is about time to give him a rest.
