Atlante needed to win this match in order to stay with playoff hopes, Leon needed the three points for a chance at the Copa Libertadores spots. In the end, Leon was too much for La Volpe’s team, and Leon earned three extremely valuable points.
Leon now has 30 points and finds itself in the second spot of the standings, one point behind Xolos. A victory over Atlas next week should be enough for Matosas’ team to earn a Copa Libertadores berth. Atlante is out of playoff contention.
By the way, who would have thought 3 months ago that Xolos and Leon would be leading the standings so late in the season?
