Huge Injury Boost for Liverpool Ahead of Villarreal Europa League Match

Losing Divock Origi to injury was a big blow for Liverpool, as they had finally begun to find their rhythm under Jurgen Klopp. However, the return of Christian Benteke to the side has given them a huge boost as they visit El Madrigal to face Villarreal in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final on Thursday.

While speaking at the press conference ahead of the game against Villarreal, Klopp confirmed that Benteke will travel with the team to Spain. “Christian Benteke is as you’d expect, he wasn’t involved in too many sessions but the last few days he came back,” said Klopp.

Christian Benteke has got a big opportunity to prove his worth for the Liverpool side. It doesn’t come any bigger than this for Benteke to return to his best, right before the EURO 2016.

After Origi’s injury, Jurgen Klopp was in deep water regarding the choice of striker up top. Benteke’s return might have just saved him from running out of options, although Klopp accepts that it’s not easy to perform right after coming back from injury. “We watch him in training, now is not the moment to think about if he’s in the best shape because after injury obviously that’s not too easy,” said the German.
