The Red Devils secured a convincing win against Crystal Place at Old Trafford. An own goal from Damien Delaney and a volley by Matteo Darmian sealed it for Louis Van Gaal’s men. The manager said to MUTV that he is very pleased with the game, but they could have scored at least 4 to 5 goals keeping in view the chances created.
When LvG was asked whether Manchester United still had a chance at the top 4, the coach answered:
“Of course we are in the race”
Manchester United put up a very disciplined performance against an attacking Crystal Palace side. With this win, United see themselves reducing the gap between them and fourth placed Arsenal to 1 point and third placed Manchester City to 2 points, with Arsenal to play against West Bromwich Albion on Thursday.
Van Gaal was satisfied with the performance of his team, which has kept them in the race to earn a top four place for Champions League.
Though the number of points Manchester United need to reach the top four by overtaking Arsenal or Manchester City are a lot when compared to the amount of games left, Van Gaal and his men haven’t given up the chase. From United’s point of view, it is important for them to keep their winning streak going and hope that Arsenal or Manchester City lose points.
