Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera believes his club belong in the Champions League next season, and he’s looking forward to a fight for a spot with just seven league fixtures remaining, according to United’s official team site.
The Red Devils have built some momentum in the Premier League of late with back-to-back 1-0 victories against Manchester City and Everton, taking them to within a point of fourth-placed rivals City who hold the final qualifying spot. The 26 year-old Herrera was out of action with a calf injury for the Manchester derby, and was thrilled to have helped his side secure an important three points against Everton.
Speaking on the race for fourth in the table, the Spaniard said “I think in the last 25 or 26 years, there has been just one time when we didn’t play Champions League… We are Man United, we as players are obligated to fight until the end and I think we have the quality to be there.”
While acknowledging City have a strong roster full of talent, the midfielder emphasized that some key United players were set to return from injury, and that the club could count on the experience of accomplished players like Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young. United will next face second-place Tottenham in Premier League action on Sunday.
