In an interview with the Liverpoolfc.com after the Reds earned a point against high-flying Spurs, Simon Mignolet has conceded that they are disappointed with a draw. The Reds scored the opening goal of the match, however, it was cancelled out in the 2nd half when Kane fired a bullet past Mignolet into the Liverpool net.
Mignolet was in fine form on Saturday, as the Belgian goalkeeper thwarted numerous attempts of the away side trying to grab a late win at Anfield. However, with The Reds switching off for a moment in the 2nd half, the in-form Harry Kane left Mignolet with no chance.
Liverpool currently sit at 9th place in the Premier League table, nine points short of the much coveted Champions League spot. Thus, while The Reds played brilliantly against Spurs for longer patches of the game, they are still way short of where they want to be in the Premier League.
Thus, it seems only reasonable that Mignolet seemed disappointed even after a brilliant personal performance against Spurs …
“We’re disappointed with that, but I’ll look back at my game tomorrow and see what I did well and what I could’ve done better.”
“We did well in a few moments, we could’ve done better in others, but we have to take the positives and go forward.”
Liverpool now face a formidable opponent in Borussia Dortmund on Thursday. In addition to being an emotional matchup between Klopp and his former employers, this fixture has the ability to epitomize the weakness of this current Liverpool squad.
“We’ve got a huge game on Thursday so we have to look to that, recover well, and make sure we do the things we could’ve done better [today] in that game.”
Thus, The Reds could not rest as they face a season-defining fixture at the Signal Iduna Park on Thursday. With a place in next season’s Champions League up for grabs, Jurgen Klopp would be hoping that this incentive would elicit a better performance from his boys.
