Liverpool are currently leading the race to sign Mauro Icardi, according to reports from the Metro

Jurgen Klopp has certainly managed to make a positive impact since his appointment as manager of Liverpool and the 48-year old led the Reds to arguably their best performance of the season in the 4-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

While the fine triumph has gone a long way in changing people’s views about Liverpool’s top four chances, Klopp is not a manager who will be resting on his laurels and it is widely expected that the German will be looking to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window in order to give his side a better chance of finishing in one of the Champions League positions.

Signing a new striker seems to be on the top of the agenda for Klopp and recent reports had claimed that the Liverpool boss had identified Inter Milan star Mauro Icardi as a target.

Icardi has been one of the most consistent strikers in Europe over the past two seasons and as a result, the striker is widely being touted with a big money move to one of the elite clubs around in Europe.

The Premier League has been seen as a realistic destination for Icardi and fallen Premier League giants Chelsea were said to be eyeing up a move for the Italian international.
