Newcastle United finally ended their wait for a Premier League win with a 6-2 thrashing of Norwich City earlier on Sunday.
Giorgino Wijnaldum, 24, scored twice before the break and the Magpies survive a major test in having to face another consecutive relegation battle.
Newcastle went up 1-0 when Moussa Sissoko drove the team forward, only to find the Dutchman open who makes no mistake and drills the ball pass Norwich keeper John Ruddy.
Norwich then levels it with a great run from Sweden international Martin Olsson who makes a precise cross to find Dieudonné Mbokani’s foot and taps it in to make it 1-1.
Once again Sissoko takes the ball forward but this time crosses it over to Wijnaldum who heads it home beating Steven Whittaker easily.
Minutes later, midfield engine Sissoko passes by a couple of Norwich players and finds Ayoze Perez, the young Spaniard then smashes the ball directly to Olsson but his rebound ultimately found the back of the net.
Just when Newcastle thought they had the game wrapped up before half-time, another cross from Olsson finds a Norwich player, only this time Nathan Redmond hits a volley to make it 3-2 giving the Canaries hope of a comeback.
Sissoko once again takes the ball forward and crosses it over to Serbian international Aleksander Mitrovic, who chests the ball down and smashes with his left foot in the top corner, 4-2.
Two minutes later, right back Daryl Janmaat crosses the ball and some poor defending from Norwich left Wijnaldum wide open to score his second header of the game and complete his hat-trick.
To top it all off, Wijnaldum scores an absolute screamer from a 25-yard effort earning the north-east club their first win of the season and finishing it 6-2. St. James’ Park went mental.
