Despite being ridiculed by journalists and people on social media when the news of Manchester United interest broke earlier in the summer, Neymar has now confirmed in an interview with ESPN Brasil: “We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete. I heard that there were offers but none were made to me.”.
The Brazil captain who has been at Barcelona for 2 seasons, spoke about wanting to improve season on season and hopefully achieve his aim of being the best player in the world. With the likes of Ronaldo achieving that feat when he was at Old Trafford, means that aim is not limited to staying at the Nou Camp.
His goalscoring record last season has set him up on the road to achieving that ambition, by scoring 40 goals in just 54 games for Barcelona and Brazil.
It appears United may have been setting the foundations of a future bid as this year they opted to sign Martial just before the transfer window closed.
United fans will be hoping, this statement from Neymar and the lack of ruling out any possible move in the future is a sign that a transfer could possibly be in the pipeline. Neymar is still to sign a contract extension, and the possibility of Barcelona not being able to match the salary that could well be offered by United, could still be a decisive factor.
