In his latest book Leading, Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he had the opportunity to sign Sergio Aguero in 2011 shortly before he joined Manchester City.
It is reported Fergie found the asking price beyond what he was willing to pay “His agent was demanding a price we were not prepared to pay,”. Aguero went on to sign for bitter rivals Manchester City and entered folklore with that last gasp winner against Queens Park Rangers that earned City their first Premier League title.
United did respond the following season by pipping City to the signature of Robin Van Persie who was an integral member of the team that retained the league title.
However with the way the transfer market has gone since 2011 and the prices now being paid for players in this era, United will certainly feel Aguero is one that got away.
He surely would have been a great addition to the squad. His record in the premier league speaks for itself, stats reveal he has 79 goals in 126 appearances having won 2 league titles.
United will be hoping he does not come back to haunt them again. United currently trail City by 2 points in a season when they will be hoping footballing bragging rights return to the north of England.
