After missing the weekend lash with old rivals Liverpool, Wayne Rooney has been left out of the squad that has travelled to Eindhoven for Manchester Uniteds’ return to the pinnacle of european football.

After suffering the hamstring scare before the Liverpool game, it is no surprise United have decided to rest Rooney, as there are many big games still to come this season and with the lack of attacking option they need the captain to be fully fit and can not really risk aggravating the injury.
It will, therefore, be the same 18 from the weekend with James Wilson and Andreas Pereira completing the squad. Wilson, who has been told he can go out on loan so that he gets more chances to impress and improve his game, could well see this as an opportunity to remind Van Gaal what he can offer if he is to feature in the game.
Without there talismanic captain, it means another opportunity for Fellaini, after a disappointing performance at the weekend, Or will it be a first start for Anthony Martial after that stunning debut goal in front of the home fans. After being written off by sections of the press before even kicking a ball for United, Martial certainly silenced alot of his detractors with that goal and it is now to be seen how he kicks on from here.
