As Pedro bid stalls, Manchester United pondering an £21.5million alternative

Manchester United will be looking to make a move for Nicolas Gaitan if their pursuit for Barcelona star Pedro fails, according to the Daily Star.

With Angel Di Maria all but set to leave Manchester United by joining French side Paris Saint-Germain, it seems certain that the Red Devils will be looking to bring in a new attacker before the end of the transfer window.

Barcelona star Pedro has heavily been linked with a move to United and there have even been reports that the Premier League giants have already placed a bid of around £22million for the 28-year old, in turn matching his release clause at the Nou Camp.

However Barcelona have moved on to refute claims that a bid for Pedro has been made by United and have insisted that they have not received any approach for the Spanish international whatsoever.

Gaitan could finally be set for United move

It is believed that United are in negotiations with Barcelona but the deal is proving to be harder to conclude than initially expected and with Bayern Munich also entering the frame to sign Pedro, the striker moving to Old Trafford this summer is anything but a foregone conclusion.

As a result of the deadlock, United have been forced into making contingency plans and now according to reports from the Daily Star, the Red Devils are currently planning a move for Nicolas Gaitan.

Gaitan has been a long time target for United but with Pedro being made available, the Red Devils had cooled their interest in the Argentine international.

Now according to reports, United are set to reignite their interest in signing Gaitan and the 27-year old attacking midfielder is also said to be open to the idea of joining the Premier League giants if they came calling for his services.
