Anfield will be rocking in this weekend’s match against Crystal Palace. This will be the last match Steven Gerrard will have in the stadium before he leaves for the LA Galaxy after the season. The Captain has shown Brendan Rodgers that he still has a lot to offer the club with some terrific goals the past few matches, especially in the last game where he scored the game tying goal with a fantastic header against Chelsea.
Goalkeeper
Simon Mignolet could not do anything to stop the lone Chelsea goal, but he should be able to get a clean sheet against Crystal Palace. Mignolet has become a reliable shot stopper after struggling at the beginning of the season.
Right Back
Emre Can should be able to hold his own this weekend since he has now played multiple matches in this position and he performed well against the Eden Hazard and the rest of the Chelsea players. He should be able to get forward this weekend especially if Liverpool are able to hold on to the ball for majority of the match.
Center Backs
Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren did relatively well against the fearsome Chelsea attack, and they should welcome the much weaker Crystal Palace offense that has only scored 1 goal in their last 4 matches. Lovren has looked better the past few matches and he could finally be proving that he could the defender who could partner Skrtel for much of next season.
Left Back
Glen Johnson was able to get forward with ease, however, his lack of a finishing touch led to goal kicks for the opponents. In what could be his penultimate match in a Liverpool jersey, Johnson will have to prove to other teams that he can still contribute in a meaningful way.
Center Midfield
Jordan Henderson will be the energy guy for the midfield since his partners will focus more on the offensive end of the pitch. Steven Gerrard will definitely start since this will be his last match in Anfield. It will be an emotional time for the team but hopefully he will be able to leave the field with a victory and possibly even a goal to his name. Philippe Coutinho will be able to slice open the Palace defense and midfield with his passing and ability to find pockets of space. He is the main creator for the team so he should see much of the ball.
Right Wing
Jordon Ibe will be motivated to play well since he just agreed to sign a new five-year contract a few days ago. He should be able to terrorize the Palace defense with his fantastic combination of speed and strength.
Forward
Raheem Sterling should lead the offense after Rickie Lambert really struggled in the last match. Sterling’s speed and dribbling ability should make him a handful for the Palace defense and hopefully he will score a goal in what could actually be one of his last matches for the team.
Left Wing
Adam Lallana’s trickery and smart running made him a handful for Branislav Ivanovic to defend, and we should see more of the same this weekend. His energy and willingness to combine with Coutinho should allow both of them to create many scoring opportunities for the Reds.
