The Denmark vs USA match will take place this Wednesday, 25th March, 2015 (11:15 AM Pacific) at the NRGi Park in Aarhus.
After failing to grant a place at the World Cup last year, Denmark are now, in a way, “forced” to find some room at the Euro 2016.
Denmark News
The Danish team started their qualifying campaign with a complicated home win over Armenia but their overall performance has left something to be desired. The Danes have only sealed their win in the last ten minutes of the match, when the experienced attacking midfielder Thomas Kahlenberg put an end to the resilience of the Caucasus team.
Morten Olsen’s boys have, nevertheless, failed to extend their positive start, since a month later they weren’t able to get anything better than a draw from their visit to Tirana and lost at home against a rejuvenated Portuguese side.
An injury time goal from the usual suspect Cristiano Ronaldo caused the Danish a major upset and, at the same time, gave Portugal the possibility of getting back in the battle for the first place of their group.
Thanks to a surprising win against Serbia last November, Denmark are at the top of Group I with seven points from four matches but a win by the Portuguese side against the Serbs next weekend will automatically catapult the latter to the top of the table, relegating Denmark to the second place.
The Danes’ last official match was back in November against Romania, a few days after their win at Belgrade, but they failed to replicate the performance they had put up with the Serbs and ended up by losing the match 2-0.
The former Danish captain and current team’s manager, Morten Olsen, has the Herculean task of rebuilding a National Team strong enough to look Old Continent powerhouses right in the eye, just as the memorable side that won the European Championship in 1992 or the one that reached the Semi-final in 1984.
United States News
As for the USA, after their excellent overall performance in Brazil last summer, they have experiencing some difficulties to rediscover that inspiration and motivation that led them into the 1/8 finals of the tournament.
Their manager, former German sharpshooter Jürgen Klinsmann, who has been doing an excellent job by the way, now has the responsibility of preparing the team for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup that will start next July.
The USA will now play two friendly matches, first against Denmark next Wednesday and another with Switzerland at the end of the month. According to Jürgen Klinsmann, these two matches will be a good opportunity to look at many of the US footballers playing in Europe and in Mexico, since those based at the MLS are still improving their rhythm.
