Liverpool were finally able to get a victory, after being winless for most of November. Now, Brendan Rodgers will try and keep some momentum going with a midweek match against the struggling Leicester City. Leicester is currently at the bottom of the Premier League and should give the Liverpool players some confidence to be able to get another three points.
The 4-2-3-1 formation has been working in the past few matches and Daniel Sturridge’s continued injury struggles means that Rodgers is unlikely to use a 4-3-1-2 anytime soon.
Goalkeeper
Simon Mignolet finally was able to keep a clean sheet against Stoke City and he will hope to have another one against Leicester. However, The Foxes are far from being a non-threat.
They are another team that likes to play crosses into the box and that means Mignolet will have to be fully focused and able to communicate with his defenders to avoid any mistakes.
Right Back
Javier Manquillo did not play last match while Glen Johnson made a case to get more playing time after his strong performance during the weekend. The young Spaniard should have an opportunity to show his defensive chops against a Leicester team that likes to attack down the flanks.
Center Backs
Kolo Toure may retain his place in the lineup after yet another good display during the weekend but Dejan Lovren could return to the left center back spot.
The Croatian has struggled this season but this will be a great chance for him to put in a strong performance by shutting down Fernando Ulloa who has five goals this season.
Left Back
Alberto Moreno has strangely disappeared from the lineup in recent games but it does not look like he has been injured since he does come on as a substitute.
Look for the well-rested Spaniard to try and show why the team brought him into the roster. Just like Manquillo, Moreno will have to be on his best defensively since Leicester tends to attack down the wings.
Midfield
Steven Gerrard is likely to make a return to the lineup after resting during the weekend. If Rodgers wants a defensive partner for the captain, he could play either Lucas Leiva or Joe Allen. On the other hand, Jordan Henderson could be the better choice if Rodgers wants more offensive power.
Raheem Sterling, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana will hopefully be able to work together to create some chances at goal. They should be able to control the game and be able to find holes in the defense to exploit.
Forward
Rickie Lambert has been on form the past few matches and he could keep that going against a weak Leicester defense. There should be many chances for the England international to score and prove that playing for his boyhood club is not too much of a burden for him.
If Rodgers wants to rest Lambert, Fabio Borini is the other player available since Mario Balotelli is still out with a hamstring injury.
