According to MarcaReal Madrid are closing in on Brazilian prospect Lucas Silva, with big chances of sealing it this winter. If not, he will come in the summer.

It’s no secret that Luka Modrić will be out for a while. Real do have decent midfielders to serve as replacements, still none can give the same as the Croatian. It’s been two matches since his injury and Isco has done a good job so far, yet it’s obvious that Toni Kroos is also a victim of this event. The German has become so important that he barely rests, and his recent statements show he needs a break.

Also in the minds of the club and fans is that Khedira wants to leave. The World champion has been offered a contract renewal at least three times by Los Blancos, including one during his lengthy absence. Sami has declined the proposals, leading to speculations that he has already agreed to join another club. Not only will Madrid lose money if he leaves in June, but they also lose a good midfielder.

This is where Lucas Silva comes in. The Brazilian isn’t very well-known by Madridistas or even European football fans. He plays for Cruzeiro in his homeland and has gained notoriety through their consecutive wins on the Brazilian Série A. Known to be a direct player, he can be Toni Kroos’ perfect refresher. Great pass accuracy and simplicity of his actions make him very similar to Toni.

Modrić’s extended injury and Khedira’s lack of commitment to the club make the move a priority for winter. The press has speculated he has a 75% chance of joining in January. For 12-15 million Euros, he seems like a bargain for such a young player with great potential. If Kroos continues to accumulate fatigue, he won’t make it to the crucial part of the season, making this deal a no-brainer.

Apart from Silva, rumors have spread about the possibility of bringing Christoph Kramer, though this would only happen if Lucas fails to join. Real did American signings in the past, with mixed results. Marcelo, Higuaín, Diogo, Robinho, Cambiasso and others came directly from this side of the world, with some giving great things and others becoming a disappointment.
