Chelsea boss Mourinho Makes German Star His Number One Target

The Daily Mail are reporting that Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho, has made Borussia Dortmund and Germany star, Marco Reus, his number one transfer target.

Chelsea’s biggest competition for Reus is likely to come from La Liga powerhouse, Real Madrid, who reportedly already have a ‘right to buy’ agreement in place with Dortmund.

The two clubs had previously done business with regards to midfielder, Nuri Sahin, who signed for Madrid from Dortmund in 2011. Sahin played just four games for Madrid before going on loan to Liverpool and returning to Dortmund last year.

Despite the supposed arrangement with Madrid, Chelsea are confident of persuading Reus to join the powerhouse they are building over in England. The major reason is Chelsea’s increased revenue and compliance with the new FIFA Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

For the second time in three years, Chelsea are set to announce a profit. The profits of 18.4 million  pounds are the highest in Roman Abromovich’s 11 year ownership. Furthermore, Turnover for the London based club increased for the fifth year running, reaching a record 319.8 million pounds.

The increasing profits cover the release clause (believed to be around 20 million pounds) in Reus’ contract, which is set to be activated next summer. However, Mourinho may go after The Dortmund star in January in order to ward of the competition.

It is believed that Mourinho is unhappy with the performances of Andre Schurrle this season, and should Dortmund ask, could include him in the deal for Reus. Though, Mourinho himself admits Schurrle still has plenty to offer the Blues and will be keen to hold on him, while also securing the services of his compatriot.

On Schurrle, Mourinho said, ‘sometimes he plays phenomenal. Other times plays so-so. But when he plays phenomenal, he is phenomenal.’

Reus, like his compatriot, can play in a number of attacking roles. Whether it be on the wing, in the middle or up top in a false nine, he is a menace for defenders, and at just 25-years-old should only improve in the years to come. Chelsea would be thrilled to secure his services, but only at a cost that suits them.
