The injury bug has hit Everton, with key players Ross Barkley and Bryan Oviedo out of the lineup.
Coming off of their 2-2 draw against Arsenal, Everton are clearly interested in bolstering their already formidable attack. Roberto Martinez’ squad have already been linked with Samuel Eto’o, but now the Toffees are said to be interested in England forward Danny Welbeck.
According to ESPNFC, Welbeck has been told by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal that he can depart Old Trafford. Other than Everton, the 23 year old is also being linked with Tottenham, Arsenal, and Sunderland.
The idea of Welbeck joining the Toffees doesn’t seem too far-fetched. Everton don’t have a great surplus of strikers, so Welbeck could be a good addition to the team. He provides great pace to a lineup, and his youth will be greatly valued. Ultimately, Welbeck and Romelu Lukaku being paired up top could turn into one of the better partnerships in the Premier League. Welbeck isn’t considered a world-class commodity, but he does have experience, having been a part of United’s countless triumphs.
Welbeck first joined the Red Devils in 2008, but has only appeared in 90 matches, and scored 20 goals. Truthfully, Welbeck hasn’t been given the opportunity that he has deserved. He is a great asset for a team like Everton, who are building a young, fiery team under Martinez. Once the squad returns to full-strength, this up-and-coming team is going to make some noise in England.
