Germany vs Cameroon: Pre-World Cup Friendly, Prediction, TV Schedule, Lineups and Highlights

Germany vs Cameroon Pre-World Cup friendly match will take place at Borussia Park in Monchengladbach on Sunday June 1, (10:30 AM PST, 18:30 BST).

Three times world champions Germany, will be heading into the World Cup in Brazil as one of the favourites to go all the way. Die Mannschaft always seem to do well at the world stage and given the immense talent at their disposal, the Germans will surely be contenders this time around as well.

However, having been placed in a group consisting of Portugal, Ghana and the United States, Joachim Loew’s men will certainly have to be at their best during the group stages itself and if they manage to negate their group, Germany stand a good a chance as anyone to go on and claim the title.

Loew selected a very youthful side during their last friendly clash against Poland and were very disappointing, with the match ending in a dour 0-0 draw. Now with Cameroon set to visit town, Loew will surely unleash his strongest side in order to gather momentum heading into the finals.

While Cameroon do not have a rich pedigree as the Germans at the World Cup, the Indomitable Lions had announced themselves to the world back in Italy 1990 and share a special bond with the competition.

Cameroon certainly have not made much of an impact since the heroics of Roger Milla 24 years ago, winning only one game ever since despite qualifying for the World Cup on four different occasionsbut they will certainly be fancying their chances this time around, having been placed in a group consisting of Brazil, Mexico and Croatia.

However, Cameroon’s preparation for the World Cup have not been ideal as Volker Finke’s men endured a disappointing 1-2 loss at the hands of Paraguay in their last friendly clash. Now up against the mighty Germans in their final friendly game ahead of the World Cup,the Cameroonian side will be hoping for a better result which would give them confidenceheading into the tournament.

Teams

Germany

Joachim Loew named a very youthful team against Poland last time out but will surely field his strongest side against Cameroon. However, Loew will be without experienced stars Manuel Neuer and Philipp Lahm for the clash as the duo are injured.

Roman Weidenfeller is the goalkeeper most likely to step-in for Neuer while Jerome Boateng could deputize for Lahm, with the likes of Mats Hummels, Per Mertesacker and Marcel Schmelzer most likely to complete the back four.

Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kross will probably be the midfield pairing while Thomas Muller, Mesut Ozil and Marco Reus will be playing as the creative force behind the striker.

The likes of Mario Gotze, Lukas Podolski, Julian Draxler and Andre Schurrle are also in contention, and considering that Loew will name his 23-man squad for the World Cup following the game against Cameroon, a lot of fringe players could also be in action.

Young Kevin Volland might be leading the line for the Germans once again but German legend Miroslav Klose could also feature in some capacity.

Cameroon

Cameroon were disappointing in their loss against Paraguay and manager Volker Finke could be tempted to shuffle his team around.

Charles Itandje should start in goal and the 31-year old will be shielded by a defence consisting of Nicolas N’Koulou, Gaetan Bong, Joel Matip and Allan-Romeo Nyom.

There could be a couple of changes in midfield though as the likes of Alex Song and Fabrice could come in place of Benjamin Moukandjo and Eyong Enoh. Mohamadou Idrissou, Edgar Salli and Raoul Loe should complete the midfield.

Maxim Choupo-Moting found the net against the Paraguayans last time out and the striker could well start ahead of Vincent Aboubakar on Sunday.

Germany vs Cameroon Prediction

Germany are certainly overwhelming favourites heading into the clash against Cameroon on Sunday. Although the Germans stumbled against Poland, Joachim Loew is expected to field a much stronger side against Cameroonand as a result, put in a much better performance.

Cameroon also had a disappointing outing during their last friendly match against Paraguay. However, given that the clash against the Germans is their last match before heading into the World Cup, Volker Finke will demand a good performance from his players and will certainly not make it easy for the Germans.

Germany look a much better side though and should register a comfortable victory.
