According to The Daily Mail, the Frenchman Adil Rami is on United’s radar. Rami is currently playing for AC Milan as a loaned Valencia player. Since he proved to be a solid acquisition for the Rossoneri, it was widely expected that Milan would buy-out his contract in the summer.
However, things didn’t work out that way.
Reportedly, Valencia and Milan had an agreement – if Milan wanted to buy-out Rami’s contract at the end of the season, they had to pay Valencia 12 million euro.
Considering the poor financial state Milan have found themselves in, the Italian giants wanted to negotiate and pay less for Rami.
That angered Valencia, who broke up the negotiations, and sent an ultimatum – 12 million euro, not a cent less. Since Milan simply couldn’t, or wouldn’t pay that amount for Rami, Valencia offered the player to other clubs.
Allegedly, Manchester United, currently on a quest to find a decent defender, sent an inquiry to Valencia, and got the same answer as Milan – “12 million euro and he’s yours”.
That amount won’t be a problem for United, since Moyes can spend up to 200 million pounds in the summer.
The captain, Nemanja Vidic, is leaving the club for Inter in the summer, Rio Ferdinand is well past his prime and probably will retire at the end of the season, and in that situation, they would need any defender they can get, so it is logical that United paid attention to top class defenders currently on the market, which Rami certainly is.
Rami is a defender with good technique, and he is great in aerial duels, which is a segment of the game United hasn’t mastered this season.
Rami scored 3 goals for Milan is Serie A in 13 games, so he would probably prove very handy when United have set pieces too.
If Moyes decides to go for him, he will certainly get him, so we give this transfer 80% probability.
