According to The Metro and Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, Chelsea have already agreed to terms with Atletico Madrid and Diego Costa. The report is suggesting that a 50 million transfer fee has been agreed upon and Costa will join Chelsea in the summer.
It is no secret that Chelsea’s main weakness all season has been a lack of goals from their strikers. Torres has struggled all season to find consistency, while Eto’o has found a groove at home, and now Ba has scored in consecutive matches but has been irrelevant for the most part all campaign.
Diego Costa has been on fire for the Spanish leaders this season as he has scored 32 goals. Mourinho has shown his lack of frustration with his strikers so this summer will be vital for them to improve that area.
The transfer rumor is coming from The Metro so it is not that reliable, thus it gets only a 3 out of 10 score.
If Costa did come to Stamford Bridge, he would be welcomed with open arms. Chelsea are still in the title race this season, only two points off the lead, so imagine where they would be with a proven goal scorer up top.
Costa has shown he can score an array of goals. He has the strength to hold up play, he can win headers, and he can also use his clever footwork to score. He just has a natural instinct to be in the right place at the right time.
I give this potential transfer a 10 out of 10 as far as helping because Costa is arguably a top 5 striker in the world right now. He can come in and play up top and get service from the array of talented midfielders that Chelsea have at their disposal.
Costa’s move to Chelsea has been talked about for quite some time now, so this rumor is not a surprise. I can see Costa playing for Chelsea next season, so I give this a likelihood of a 75 percent chance only because this has not been confirmed from better sources.
Chelsea are hoping that 50 million pounds for a striker pays off this time for Costa. They spent 50 million pounds on Fernando Torres, and it has not worked out at all. The price sounds a bit hefty but if Costa can continue his goal scoring with Chelsea, it would be well worth it.
