According to The Sun, the prolific Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic is on Chelsea’s radar.
The numbers of the Croatian are quite impressive. Last season he scored 21 goals, but in this season he is even deadlier – 17 goals in 17 starts in the Bundesliga.
Why would then Bayern Munich sell such a productive striker?
The answer is simple, Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish attacker will arrive in Munich this summer, and considering Guardiola’s playing style, there will be no room for both Mandzukic and Lewa.
The Croat will probably leave the club, and among other interested parties, such as Juventus and Arsenal, Chelsea is emerging as a favorite to secure his signature.
Mourinho will, allegedly, offload his attacking trio in the summer and use on-loan Romelu Lukaku as a part of a possible deal with Atletico Madrid regarding the Diego Costa transfer to London, which has been discussed in the last few months.
Mandzukic and Costa would be powerful forwards, which could use quality passes that provide technically gifted midfielders, such as Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian.
This transfer is certainly very possible, but the question remains – is Chelsea really interested in Mandzukic? Diego Costa and possibly Radamel Falcao remain top targets for the summer transfer window, and if the Blues fail in closing down those deals, it is possible to turn their attention to Mandzukic.
The Croatian striker would fit nicely into Chelsea’s squad, and surely be more lethal than Torres and Eto’o this season.
Mandzukic will probably be offered to clubs at the end of the season, because of Lewandowski’s arrival in Munich, and it depends on Chelsea whether or not they’ll go for him, which again, depends on their success in securing the signatures of prime targets Costa and Falcao, so we give this transfer 40% probability.
