Manchester United‘s striker, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, was hurt in Mexico’s friendly against Nigeria. The match which took place Wednesday night at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, was a crucial game for the Mexican star in this FIFA Match Day in his ambition to reach the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
As the only FIFA Match Day prior to the World Cup, Chicharito was used in the starting lineup by coach Miguel Herrera considering the player would not be eligible for a national team call-up until late May. Hernandez entered the game with some pressure to have a good performance, as his low play time under David Moyes in the Permier League has him in a poor form.
The Mexican star was hurt in the first half, in what is reported to be a leg injury. During an offensive play, the Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, fell on top of him. Although the striker finished the first half, he was substituted at the start of the second-45 by Alan Pulido.
Although it is still not known the gravity of his injury, it is mentioned that it could deal with strained knee ligaments. An injury of this magnitude could further affect the player’s participation with Manchester United, and if serious, it could also affect his World Cup chances considering the competitiveness in Mexico’s offense.
