Chelsea play Everton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, February 22nd. Chelsea are coming off of a midweek defeat against Manchester City in the FA Cup. The Blues sit at the top of the table and will put out their best squad to secure their position.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
No surprises here, it seems as if this formation will be used for many more games to come.
Goalkeeper: Petr Čech
His consistency is a reason why he has started every Premier League game in front of goal. Mark Schwarzer still must wait for Premier League action this season.
Right Back: Branislav Ivanovic
Both the right back and left back positions are determined by whether Cesar Azpilicueta is starting. He will surely be starting on the left. Everton is a quick team and Ashley Cole can not be held liable to keep up with the younger players these days.
Center Backs: Gary Cahill and John Terry
The two Englishmen have proven their reliability. Their communication and positioning can put Chelsea fans at ease. Despite the aging Terry, he still provides the most safety in the back.
Left Back: Cesar Azpilicueta
Playing on the left wing has never been his ideal position, but he will take what he can get in the stardom Chelsea squad. Unable to cross balls in with the same proficiency with his left foot, he compensates with his speed, work rate, and his ability to close down a defender.
Central Defending Midfielders: Nemanja Matic and Frank Lampard
Matic has seamlessly placed himself into the starting squad and has proved himself on the field. The big Serbian is already being compared to Yaya Toure and Sergio Busquets. Frank Lampard will want to add to his playing time. Without many goals this season we can be sure to see a few trademark lashes on target.
Left Wing: Eden Hazard
Just like his Czech teammate in goal, the Belgian superstar has started every Premier League game this season. This comes as no surprise, he is an essential part of the team. Having recently compared himself to the likes of Messi and Ronaldo, we will certainly see some magic on the pitch.
Center Attacking Midfielder: Oscar
Having not started against Manchester City, he will surely start. This season he started out looking like the player of the season but has had a recent falling out in form.
Right Wing: Willian
It is safe to say that he is preferred in this position over contender Andre Schürrle. Since his move from Shaktar Donetsk, he has shown promise and is growing as a player.
Forward: Fernando Torres
Probably the hardest position to predict in the Chelsea team. The Spaniard has not played in a decent amount of time and Eto’o has been playing a high number of games.
