Raheem Sterling has been in impressive form and is considered a rising star in the Liverpool‘s first team. The winger is only 19 years old but, his manager Brendan Rodgers urges for Sterling be part of England’s squad for the World Cup 2014 in Brazil.
Criticism comes up from a Sky Sports pundit, Tony Gale saying that Sterling’s style of play depends very much only on his pace. However, Rodgers still sticks to his opinion and believes that the young winger has more than pace.
“He is one of the most tactically aware players I have worked with. He certainly has more than pace. He has wonderful quality, and what he does have for a young player is responsibility on the pitch,” said Rogers.
Furthermore, the manager said, ”I would have to disagree with Tony on that one!”
Rodgers’ proposition has received a positive response from the England manager, Roy Hodgson. Hodgson will name his complete squad consisting of 30 players next week and he might consider Sterling to join his squad for the World Cup in Brazil.
In a report from Daily Mail, Hodgson said, ”People like him emerging and doing as well as he is in a top team puts a lot of pressure on everybody else, because if you can do it at the top of the table with Liverpool then you can do it in an England shirt as well.”
Actually, Roy Hodgson gave Sterling a chance to make a senior debut for England in November 2012 when he was only 17. As a young player, he has a big chance to add more caps in his international career.
Despite his young age, Raheem Sterling has been in impressive form and has been a regular player in Liverpool’s starting line up. For that reason, he has a big chance to be included in the England squad for the World Cup 2014.
What do you think? Does Sterling have sufficient talent and experience to have a shot at reaching England’s World Cup roster?
