Liverpool are a productive team in terms of goals scored in the Barclays Premier League, they are only behind Manchester City. However, they have only kept nine clean sheets in 30 games. The statistics shows their carelessness and some goals they conceded have come from blunders at the back.
Liverpool’s defenders have been ordered by their manager, Brendan Rogers, to banish blunders which could derail them from winning the FA Cup.
“We have the defensive strength but we just have to cut out the mistakes. Structurally we are okay but we have made mistakes. We haven’t had so many this year, so that is something,” said the manager.
There are some moments when Liverpool’s defenders make mistakes at the back. In the last two games against West Brom and Fulham in the Premier League, they conceded some unnecessary goals.
Kolo Toure has been a serious liability at the back for Liverpool. The Ivorian made a stray pass, which lead to an equalizing goal against West Brom earlier this month. Then, he scored an own comical goal against Fulham.
Martin Skrtel also played a part in Fulham’s second goal, when he failed to clean Riether’s cross properly, which allowed Richardson to shoot from a close range.
All in all, Brendan Rodgers has shown his concern over Liverpool’s blunders at the back. He ordered that Liverpool should banish their mistakes at the back if they really want to achieve the FA Cup glory.
