Manchester United will host Sunderland for the Capital One Cup second leg semifinal (Sunderland won the first leg 2-1) on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 19:45 GMT, here is our predicted lineup.
It is understood that Rooney is not quite 100% fit for this must win game, but he is likely to be risked. An 80% Wayne Rooney is still the best they have to offer at the moment with Van Persie apparently still not nearing a return.
The defeat against Chelsea was a result of some more misguided tactics exhibited by David Moyes. Leaving out Fletcher despite his return from injury going extremely well, was a sorry oversight and playing Januzaj off Welbeck was just very bizarre. It seems Moyes just can’t help but change things around for every game regardless of the quality of the previous performance.
So frankly, your guess is as good as mine as to what he will do for the return leg against Sunderland. United have to win, that’s one thing we know. Vidic is banned, that’s the other thing we know.
The rest of the story is very much in the hands of Mr Moyes. He’s just full of surprises right now, but unless one of them involves a small Spanish maestro putting pen to paper by the end of this week, United fans will be disappointed. Even more disappointed.
Surely Moyes must have some idea of his best team selection with what he currently has available by now? If he does, then we will surely see it on Wednesday….
