According to The Mirror, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will make an official bid for Mohamed Salah, FC Basel winger. Salah has been a target for the Reds since the beginning of the transfer window. He can play down to the both flanks of the field, but he prefers the right wing over the left. He is left footed, so he often drives to the middle and shoots.

The 21-year-old Egyptian came into the spotlight after some stellar displays in the Champions League, especially against Chelsea, when he was the best player in his team in both victories against the Blues.

Those games proved Rodgers that Salah can be a fine acquisition, and that he could easily settle in the Premier league.

Liverpool is in need of a winger who could provide Luis Suarez with some quality assistance. Salah could play right and left, and he has a powerful shot too, so he could really bring a new dimension to Liverpool’s attack, which at this moment rests almost entirely on the back of Suarez.

The biggest problem in this potential transfer could be the price of the Egyptian winger. It is believed that Basel won’t give Salah away for less than 12 million pounds, and the sources close to the Liverpool say that Rodgers is prepared to give only 8 million.

If Basel stands firm in their demands, the whole deal could fall apart, but it is expected that Rodgers will back off and pay the full demanded price. An even more likely outcome would be that they could arrange a deal which will condition the amount of money paid with the quality of Salah’s games in his new club.

Salah, on the other hand, is keen to play in a bigger club, and he told the press that he loves the Premier League, and that he considers the English top tier the best league in the world. So, besides the money, his personal affinities also come into play here.

The Basel winger played all of Champions League group matches, and scored two goals. In Switzerland, he scored nine goals in 24 matches.
