Match Preview
Germany won Group A with a perfect record. Three wins from three matches gave them nine points, with eight goals scored and three conceded.
Germany had first place secured with a match to spare. Wins over Argentina and the hosts Morocco in their first two games settled the group early.
Venezuela finished third in Group D with three points. Japan won that group with nine points, and France took second place with six.
Venezuela’s three points still earned a knockout place. They took one of the four Round of 16 spots reserved for the best third-placed teams.
The winners move on to the quarterfinals on Sunday, November 1. For Venezuela, a win over a group winner would be the result of their tournament so far.
Germany arrive as the reigning European champions at this age level under coach Sabine Loderer. Their best finish at this World Cup is third place, in 2008.
Venezuela have gone deep at this tournament before. They finished fourth at the U-17 Women’s World Cup in both 2014 and 2016.

Ariana Ojeda and Orliany Duran scored Venezuela’s first two goals that night. Suarez struck at 90 plus 10 minutes, with Venezuela down to 10 players.
Venezuela closed the group with a 2-0 defeat to Japan on Saturday, October 24. Mei Hanashiro scored at eight minutes, and Yuka Kishida added the second after halftime.
Team News
Germany have spread their goals around the squad. Seven different players have scored their eight goals, and Choisy is the only one with two.
Venezuela’s three goals are also shared. Ojeda, Duran and Suarez have one each, and no other Venezuela player has scored at this tournament.
Venezuela changed goalkeepers for the Japan match. Valeria Rebanales was sent off against Zambia and missed the Japan game, so coach Dayana Frias had to adjust in goal.
Key Storylines
Group winners against third place survivors. Germany took maximum points and Venezuela took three, yet one match settles who reaches the last eight. The group gap counts for nothing on Wednesday.
Venezuela’s late goal habit. Their win over Zambia was decided at 90 plus 10 minutes. If this match stays close late, Venezuela have already shown they will keep pushing.
Germany’s fast starts. Germany scored before halftime in all three group matches, including three first half goals against Morocco. Venezuela cannot afford another slow start like the one against Japan.
