Jorge Ruvalcaba is in line for a return to Mexico after the Dirección de Selecciones Nacionales sent a formal apartado notice to the New York Red Bulls, according to David Medrano in Mediotiempo. The squad list is not official, and the FMF has not announced the convocatoria for the Nations League quarterfinal against Jamaica.
Medrano reported the notice on October 27, 2026. An apartado is a preliminary hold that tells a club a player may be needed for an international window.
It is not a confirmed call-up. Ruvalcaba will only be in the squad if head coach Rafael Márquez names him in the official list.
What the Apartado Means
The notice went to the New York Red Bulls weeks before the November window. That timing gives the MLS club advance warning about a possible release.
Ruvalcaba is a Designated Player in New York. The club signed him from Pumas UNAM on February 2, 2026, on a contract through the 2029-30 season.
He plays as a forward and as a winger. His club lists him as a forward, and he has featured wide in the New York attack.
Ruvalcaba’s Season in New York
Ruvalcaba has scored eight goals and added one assist in 30 MLS matches this season. Those numbers explain why Mexico is looking at him again.
He was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday in October 2026. That honor followed a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over San Diego FC.
Before the move north, Ruvalcaba came through Pumas UNAM. He made 100 appearances for the club where he developed as a professional.
His Previous Mexico Appearances
Ruvalcaba has played twice for Mexico, and both appearances came in friendlies. He has not yet played an official competitive match for the senior team.
He scored in January 2025 against Internacional of Brazil, in a friendly played under Javier Aguirre. Mexico won that match in Porto Alegre.
That match was against a club side, so official cap counts list only one senior cap for him. The count comes from the Paraguay match below.
His second appearance came in November 2025 against Paraguay. He started that friendly, which Mexico lost 2-1.
A place in the Jamaica squad would put him in line for a competitive debut. That step depends entirely on the official list.
What Comes Next
Mexico faces Jamaica in the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal over two legs. The first leg is on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at the National Stadium in Kingston.
The second leg is on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, at Estadio Monterrey in Monterrey. Concacaf confirmed both dates and venues in its official November schedule.
The series winner advances to the Nations League Finals in March 2027. The winner also qualifies for the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup.
For now, the only confirmed step is the apartado itself, as reported by Medrano. Mexico’s official convocatoria has not been published.
