The now-former Monterrey manager Javier Aguirre was let go of his duties from the team after losing to Atletico San Luis at home this past weekend. Aguirre had spearheaded Monterrey to just five points from five games played this season.
Rayados now undergoes a transitional phase as Hugo Castillo was named the interim manager of the club. Castillo has plenty of knowledge on the Mexican game, formerly having played with Monterrey, Atlas, Club America and Santos Laguna from 1996-2006.
The Argentine coach had previously also had a short-lived stint as Atlas manager in 2015 and will now try and serve his club for a game or two. Reports indicate that Victor Manuel Vucetich will be returning to Monterrey soon, although the club has not confirmed this information.
Monterrey will have a very tough task in their first game without Aguirre, playing Leon away from home. Leon is currently in seventh place with 11 points and is enjoying a four-game winning streak in all competitions.
Monterrey has specifically struggled offensively with only six goals scored, tied for the worst offense in the Liga MX this season. This is totally mind-boggling considering Rayados counts with players like Rogelio Funes Mori, Maxi Meza and Rodolfo Pizarro.
