The Mexico vs Chile international friendly match will be broadcast live online and on TV as El Tri hosts La Roja at SDCCU Stadium in San Diego, California this Friday, March 22, at 7:15 PM Pacific.
Mexico is preparing for the Gold Cup competition and starting up a new cycle with manager Gerardo “Tata” Martino. The former Atlanta United manager has had a very controversial start to his tenure with El Tri as Carlos Vela was not called up and “Tecatito” Corona declined to join the national team.
Martino did call up most of Mexico’s key players for these friendly matches including Raul Jimenez, “Chicharito” Hernandez, Hirving Lozano and Guillermo Ochoa. There are also several young players on the roster like Alexis Vega, Diego Lainez, Carlos Rodriguez and Jorge Sanchez.
There were also returning veterans that had not been called up in a while like Jose Juan Vazquez and Luis Montes. The most intriguing players include Diego Lainez, given his age and talent and Raul Jimenez, who has been killing it with Wolves in the EPL with 15 goals and six assists in all competitions.
Chile also had some key absences from its roster like Alexis Sanchez, Racing Club midfielder Marcelo Diaz and Tigres UANL forward Eduardo Vargas. However, Reinaldo Rueda still has a very strong squad with players like Gary Medel, Arturo Vidal and Nicolas Castillo.
There are six total Liga MX players on Chile’s squad with Nicolas Castillo, Felipe Mora, Jean Meneses, Diego Valdes, Sebastian Vegas and Igor Lichnovsky. La Roja is gearing up for the very competitive Copa America and will try and spoil Gerardo Martino’s debut with Mexico.
