FC Juarez topped Group 2 of the Copa MX with Puebla and Tampico Madero and was the best defensive team during the group stage with just two goals allowed. Los Bravos defeated Leon on penalties in the round of 16 and would host the semifinal matchup against Pumas UNAM if they advance.
The border city team has not been great in the Ascenso MX, currently in 13th place, but this is a completely different tournament. Some of the standout players for FC Juarez in this match include goalkeeper Ivan Vazquez Mellado and midfielder Kevin Gutierrez, who have both played in the Liga MX.
Veracruz is currently on a 20-game winless streak in league play, but did finish first in Group 7 of the Copa MX. Los Escualos defeated Mineros de Zacatecas 2-1 at the Estadio Luis “Pirata” Fuente in the round of 16 and should really be going for it in this match.
Robert Siboldi’s team is practically already relegated and will need to pay a substantial fine at the end of the Liga MX season. Los Tiburones Rojos really only have the Copa MX left to fight for and key players like Cristian “Polaco” Menendez and Colin Kazim-Richards should play in this match.
