Monarcas Morelia has been one of the worst teams in the Liga MX 2019 Clausura, currently in 16th place and the team from Michoacan recently parted ways with manager Roberto Hernandez. La Monarquia is yet to name an official replacement for Hernandez, but have already announced that Gaston Obledo will serve as the interim manager.
Morelia finished as the first overall seed in the Copa MX with 12 points, but had a very manageable group with Asenso MX teams Correcaminos and Potros UAEM. It does not seem like La Monarquia will have much to fight for in the Liga MX and should go all out in this game with a strong lineup that features players like Gabriel Achilier and Sebastian Ferreira.
Puebla finished 17th overall and as the 16th seed in the Copa MX with just four points and will now look to dominate the competition with no games at home. Jose Luis Sanchez Sola has expressed great interest in the tournament and is likely to use a formidable lineup with players like Lucas Cavallini, Brayan Angulo and Nicolas Vikonis.
La Franja is undefeated since the return of “El Chelis” as manager and is coming off a 1-1 draw against FC Juarez away from home. Los Camoteros are going into this match in much better form than Monarcas Morelia and should have a good chance at advancing to the quarterfinals despite the home-field advantage for La Monarquia.
