This Monday, February 25, 2019, Toluca officially announced through a press release that Hernan Cristante had been relieved of his duties as Toluca’s manager. Los Diablos Rojos were off to a terrible 2019 Clausura season, currently in 15th place with just seven points, coming off a rough 4-0 loss to Santos Laguna.
Toluca was winless in its last six league games and had only scored one goal in this woeful run of form. Los Escarlatas also had a horrendous start to the CONCACAF Champions League with a 3-0 loss against Sporting KC in the first-leg of a round of 16 matchup.
Cristante had been in charge of Los Diablos Rojos since the 2016 Apertura season and had his share of good moments with the club. The Argentine manager reached the Liga MX playoffs on four occasions and even finished in first place and made the final of the 2018 Clausura tournament.

Cristante fell short and never brought a title to Los Escarlatas and the horrendous recent run of form brought an end to his tenure with the team. It is unclear as to who will replace the Argentine manager, but there are several reports indicating that “Chepo” De La Torre and Ricardo La Volpe are options for Toluca.
